With Sci-Fi films back in the public eye at warp speed like "Star Wars", "Star Trek" and new franchises like "The Hunger Games" it brings with it the new spawn of Sci-Fi film makers marking their film debuts like "Abysm" Written and Directed by Serge Levin, a die hard Sci-Fi fan who needed to tell his story and with enough begging and borrowing, he finally was able to make that dream come true and turn a new chapter in his own life.
Directed and Written by: Serge Levin shot on location in New York.
The 80's throw back "Abysm" is a science fiction ride like no other, interweaving psychological suspense, horror, and transcendent abstract symbolism. It’s Jacob’s Ladder meets Scanners, with Michael Ironside (Total Recall) appropriately playing the villain – doctor Julian Loro, while Charles Baker (Breaking Bad, The Neon Demon) the protagonist Sam Miller. Ironside’s character, Loro, is as mysterious as the research facility he runs – a clandestine laboratory that dissects and engineers human emotions. Baker portrays Miller as both a victim and unintended hero who travels down a surreal and frightening trip with no clear end or beginning.
After a failed suicide attempt, a young man coping with loss and depression, submits to a series of trials that fine-tune human emotions, but his unique reaction to the tests send him on a journey that transcends both physical and perceived reality.
