Art About People Exhibit Benefits Opportunity Village

Original works from more than 40 artists on display at Emerald Homes’ Sandstone Edge

Las Vegas, NV, May 18, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Shapiro & Sher Group, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties and Emerald Homes have teamed up to present ‘Art About People,’ an exhibit of original artwork from Opportunity Village artists. More than 100 pieces are on display and available for public preview and purchase now through May 31. Proceeds will benefit Opportunity Village, “Las Vegas’ Favorite Charity,” a local non-profit that serves nearly 3,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities annually.

Artwork displayed in the ‘Art About People’ exhibit average $100 in price and can be viewed daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sandstone Edge, a semi-custom luxury home collection by DR Horton’s Emerald Homes. Sandstone Edge is located at 1644 Quartz Ledge Court in Southwest Las Vegas near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Buffalo Drive.

“We really enjoy working with Opportunity Village and have auctioned their artwork at events in the past to raise money for their programs and services,” said Ivan Sher, principal of Shapiro & Sher Group. “Our parent company, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties, is also a corporate supporter and holds regular fundraising and volunteer events to help this incredible organization.” Sher’s business partner, Florence Shapiro, and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties’ CEO Mark Stark both serve on the Opportunity Village Foundation Board of Directors.

‘Art About People’ kicked off April 30 with an opening reception at the Sandstone Edge model homes that raised $5,000 and Sher said he expects at least $5,000 more to be raised during the exhibit. “These are truly gifted artists who have created pieces anyone would be proud to display in their home or business,” said Sher. “It’s an easy way to support the organization and bring a little more style and color in your life!” The purchase price of the artwork is also tax-deductible.

About Opportunity Village
Mission: Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people within our community with significant intellectual disabilities, to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

Opportunity Village was founded in 1954 by seven families who were determined to give their children with disabilities the best lives possible. Now, more than 60 years later, Opportunity Village is one of the most recognized and respected organizations of its type in the United States.

Nevada’s largest employer of people with disabilities (who we call OVIPs), Opportunity Village serves nearly 3,000 individuals annually, providing vocational training, employment, habilitation and social recreation programs and services that make their lives more purposeful and interesting.

Opportunity Village citizens – individuals who were previously considered unemployable – work at Opportunity Village’s Employment Resource Centers and in jobs throughout the community, collectively earning wages amounting to more than $3.9 million in 2014. They are hard-working and diligent, proudly paying taxes and happily leading more fulfilling lives.

Primarily a self-funded organization, Opportunity Village generates the majority of its operational funding through its employment contracts and fundraising efforts such as the Magical Forest and Great Santa Run, saving Nevada taxpayers nearly $35 million annually.
