Founder of Altitude Seven, Georgina Miranda, knows this first hand as she often says, “adventure changed my life.” The desire to share the gift of adventure with others has been the fuel for her business since she was first inspired to create it while climbing Denali in 2010. She has gone from a woman that at one point could not run a mile to a women that has scaled some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mt. Everest twice. She often credits the mountains as being her greatest teachers.

Women are increasingly changing the face of adventure. There are millions of women out there that share a love for the outdoors, human-powered endeavors, and travel. Women make up almost 50 percent participation of many outdoor sports and activities and leading the way in terms of solo travel. Yet the reality is that much of the outdoor and adventure travel apparel and gear for women has been limited to “shrink it and pink it” ways of design for far too long. Georgina knows this all too well as she constantly struggled to find functional gear that she actually liked over the years. Brands and retailers are starting to respond with better designs and relatable marketing, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. Women also lack a presence in traditional media channels for action sports, outdoor, and adventure travel in general. Altitude Seven is determined to help grow equal representation of women adventurers in media through its own platform and other media partnerships as they feel it is critical to have visible women role models in this space.
Through her own journey and adventures, Georgina met and continues to meet other women actively choosing adventure as a way of life. These women do not fall under a stereo-type, as they are of all different ages, shapes, sizes, colors, cultures, and skill levels. “The thirst for pursuing adventure in whatever form it means to each of us is our bond and our point of unity and connection,” says Georgina.
In March the company launched its ongoing #ChooseAdventure campaign, featuring and celebrating women that have chosen adventure as a way of life. Thus far the campaign has profiled a wide range of women from pro-athletes, to founders, to NGO workers operating in extreme environments, to mothers that are introducing their children to the adventure life at an early age, to women that simply embrace and embody the spirit of adventure in their everyday lives. “At Altitude Seven we are committed to building a company that celebrates amazing women that are a source of inspiration not only for where they have gone and what drives them, but for all the places we know they will go!” says Georgina.
