Hoag Named a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery

Newport Beach, CA, May 25, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian recently received a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) accreditation from the Surgical Review Corporation.

When it comes to robotic-assisted surgery, Hoag was the first in Southern California to employ the technology and has become one of the national leaders in the field. The surgeons at Hoag perform the fifth highest volume of both gynecologic procedures and total robotic cases annually in the country. Hoag’s program has two da Vinci® Xi robots and two da Vinci ® Si robots on the Newport Beach campus with another Xi robot on the Irvine campus.

“Earning the Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery designation signifies our ability to consistently deliver the safest, highest-quality care to robotic surgery patients,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, Hoag president and chief executive officer. “The COERS program fosters quality improvement in robotic surgery, and participation has focused our team on exceeding clinical benchmarks and guidelines. But most importantly, our commitment to excellence improves the health and well-being of our patients.”

The designation recognizes hospitals and surgeons who demonstrate an unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care. The program is structured to help robotic surgery providers continuously improve care quality and patient safety.

The surgeons at Hoag who are part of the Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery include Lisa Abaid, M.D., gynecology and gynecologic oncology; John (Jeb) Brown, M.D., gynecology and gynecologic oncology; Matthew Clark, M.D., gynecology and urogynecology; Colin Joyo, M.D., thoracic surgery and cardiovascular surgery; Moses Kim, M.D., urology; Alberto A.
