mycity.dog Hosts Nation’s First Dog Fashion Week, Omaha FURshion Week

Omaha, NE, May 26, 2016 --(PR.com)-- mycity.dog, a web-based community connecting dog owners with dog-friendly businesses and services, will host Omaha FURshion Week June 3rd and 4th in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha FURshion Week, spearheaded by mycity.dog and Benson First Friday, will be the country’s first official fashion week dedicated to dogs.

In addition to creating a fun event for Omaha’s dog community, organizers say the slate of events will also raise awareness of their dog-friendly vision for Omaha and raise funds to help the city become more dog friendly in concrete ways.

“This is an incredibly fun event for dog-lovers and families, but we also wanted a way to aid in installing more dog waste stations and funding for dog parks in our city,” says Leah Thrasher, co-founder of mycity.dog. “Omaha has a large community of dog owners, and we want to empower them and the city in general to become a better place to live with our pets.”

On Friday, June 3rd, from 7 p.m. - 2 a.m., Benson First Friday will transform into Benson FURst Friday, featuring fun, free festivities including an amateur dog fashion show hosted by Caitlin Little, doggy caricatures by artist Shelby Beck, paw paintings on canvas by Raise the Woof, and a beer garden at Jake’s Cigar Bar.

Saturday, June 4th, at Midtown Crossing, winners of Omaha’s Top Dog models will strut their stuff in Omaha FURshion Week’s Dog Fashion Show at 7 p.m. Local celebrities from TV, radio, and fashion will sit in as judges — including KMTV’s Lindsey Theis, Nicholas Huff of hutch, Megan Hunt of Hello Holiday, and Jenny O from Q98. Tickets are just $5 per dog in attendance, with all proceeds going directly to support the installation of more dog waste stations and dog parks throughout Omaha.

Additional Saturday events between 4-8 p.m. include red carpet photos, a full service “Bone Bar” serving up bones and mock-tails for dogs, behavior training demos from Dharma Dog, pawdicures from Wag, food and drink from Chicago Dawg House, and a variety of other local businesses hosting dog-friendly booths featuring giveaways, prizes, and more.
