“South Bend’s Lunkerville” Heroes on the Water Episode Takes to the Air Waves Again in Special Bonus Airings on NBC Sports Network

New York, NY, May 27, 2016 --(PR.com)-- To help celebrate Memorial Day and recognize our nation’s military veterans, NBC Sports is re-airing a special episode of “South Bend’s Lunkerville” — twice. Two encore airings of the “South Bend’s Lunkerville” episode that features Ollie Hughes and Heroes on the Water (HOW), the non-profit organization dedicated to helping military veterans relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate through kayak fishing, will be broadcast first on Thursday, May 26 at 3:30pm EST, and again on Memorial Day, Monday May 31, at 1:30pm EST.

This important and moving episode features the show’s host ‘Mike D’ on the water with war veteran Ollie Hughes from HOW, who shares his passion for fishing, kayaking, and the organization that helped transform his life. When Hughes returned home from the war in Afghanistan, he faced a challenging and seemingly impossible recovery process from injuries sustained on the battlefield. The episode reveals the sacrifices he and his fellow veterans made in the service of their country and how remarkably beneficial the simple activity of kayak fishing has been in helping combat veterans who participate in HOW programs reintegrate back into a fulfilling lives with family and friends.

“Fishing is an amazing experience for anyone,” said Scott Griffith, Vice President of Marketing for South Bend, “and when it is introduced to veterans, the positive physical and emotional benefits seem almost magical. HOW has been able to achieve a 78% decrease in overall stress levels in their veteran participants, as well as realize a very significant reduction in other combat-related symptoms like avoidance behavior and hyper-vigilance. It’s truly remarkable what HOW has done for our warriors and their families, and this really comes through on this episode of 'South Bend’s Lunkerville' as Ollie fishes and shares his story with Mike D.”

“The decision by NBC Sports to air the episode just before Memorial Day, as well as on Memorial Day itself, is perfect,” says Michael de Avila (aka ‘Mike D’). “A lot of people will be going fishing over Memorial Day weekend and as they enjoy that experience, we hope they’ll have seen the HOW episode and reflect on all the great things HOW has done for our veterans, as well as the sacrifices the men and women who serve in our military have made for the sake of our freedom and country.”

Join Mike D and Ollie Hughes on a truly wonderful Memorial Day experience unlike any other.

About “South Bend’s Lunkerville”
When Indie film director Michael de Avila hooked his passion for story telling onto his love of fishing, he spawned an award-winning reality television show, “Lunkerville”. In 2012, “Lunkerville” signed a multiyear agreement with its first title sponsor, the heritage fishing brand South Bend®, a leader in affordable fishing tackle that shares Mike D’s commitment to promoting fishing as fun and accessible for everyone. “South Bend’s Lunkerville” reaches over 150+ million households, broadcast on WFN in Canada and the United States; on the NBC Sports Network throughout the United States; on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Philadelphia and California, and Time Warner Sports North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, and select PBS stations. “South Bend’s Lunkerville” is a production of Rockville Pictures Inc.
