The report, based on research of 600 businesses, compares businesses on over 20 digital marketing data points. Included in the report are quality scores on SEO, Google Analytics, Website, social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more.
Individual data points of digital marketing in Calgary are interesting but when the data is further analyzed some interesting facts are revealed. To start, marketing in general seems like an afterthought for many industrial businesses in Calgary but the businesses with the best scores tended to be the most successful ones.
"About 49 percent of businesses in the research did not have a website; it is difficult to run a successful business when there in almost no marketing happening," said David Howse, President of Matterhorn Business Solutions and author of the report.
In 2013, Canadian Business magazine reported that 59 percent of small businesses do not have a website. Matterhorn's 2016 report, focused on two business types, shows little improvement in the Calgary industrial sector.
