V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and children that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of playwright Eve Ensler’s award winning play “The Vagina Monologues.” In 2007, more than 3000 V-Day events took place in the US and around the world. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $50 million and has educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it. The “V” in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina.

ADV & SAS offers a safe atmosphere where survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence can find support, resources, and strength. With outreach locations in Ottawa, Streator, Pontiac and at IVCC, their counselors and advocates can help members of the community to sort out feelings and discuss options. ADV & SAS provides safe shelter, counseling, prevention education, court advocacy, 24-hour hospital response, and a 24-hour crisis hotline. All of the services provided by ADV & SAS are free of charge. Their 24-hour crisis hotline telephone number is 1-800-892-3375.

Sexual Assault Advocate and the Director of The Vagina Monologues Laura Nimke stated, “I am so excited to bring The Vagina Monologues to Ottawa this year. I have seen how this powerful production can facilitate change. As a sexual assault advocate, I have personally witnessed how devastating sexual and domestic violence can be to the community. I sincerely hope that this production will not only raise money to help ADV & SAS with their mission, but I also hope that those who attend the performances will be able to understand just how prevalent and caustic domestic and sexual violence can be.”
