New Novel Concrete Wings Details Coming of Age and Finding Personal Freedom in the US During Fidel Castro's Cuba

Concrete Wings: The Novel is released worldwide through a variety of online retailers. The novel, penned by award-winning writer Beverly Gandara, is a coming-of-age story about a Cuban immigrant who flees the country to New York City in the early 1960s.

It is about Julian, a naïve teen raised by a tyrant and a functioning voluptuary in a country ruled by a dictator who is sent out of Cuba to retrieve smuggled family jewels on the eve of the Bay of Pigs Invasion.

Beverly deftly guides us through Julian’s childhood in Havana and his coming of age in New York City during the sexual revolution while we witness the conditions before, during and after Fidel Castro’s takeover of the Island and the traumatizing effects it has on Julian’s dysfunctional family.

As Julian strives for freedom, political and personal, by a twist of fate he begins to lose his liberty when his oppressive parents arrive and refuse to assimilate into American society. The story contains contains humor, adultery, smuggling, betrayal and family issues. The situations Julian experiences are funny, sad, intriguing and hold your interest throughout.

Beverly Gandara resides in Florida with her husband, Armand. A native of New York City, she attended Brooklyn College and Marymount College. She began her screenwriting studies at the Gotham Writer’s Workshop in Manhattan and continued studying in Hollywood and Phoenix. Beverly has written several contest-placed screenplays and is the recipient of the Golden Palm Award for Best Screenplay at the 2012 Beverly Hills International Film Festival for her comedy, Rent Money.
