Latino Public Radio Consortium Announces New Executive Director

Lake Mary, FL, June 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Latino Public Radio Consortium (LPRC) is pleased to announce that Magaly Rivera has been named Executive Director.

Until recently, Rivera was LPRC Board Chair. “We’re very happy to have a new Executive Director from within the organization,” said Edgar Aguirre, LPRC’s current Board Chair. “She has extensive experience with Latino public media and the Hispanic market, bringing a wealth of knowledge in development, organizational growth and ideas to advocate for the inclusion of Latinos in public broadcasting and support a robust Latino public radio market.”

“I’m very excited to rejoin the LPRC in this new role and to bring forth initiatives that can continue to fortify Latino radio stations that serve our Latino communities,” said Rivera who brings over 25 years of experience in Hispanic marketing, strategic planning, business development, community initiatives, program concept development and grant writing.

Through her consulting firm, Mag Advisors has serviced various public media clients garnering large dollar funding through educational initiatives. Some of her clients have included Vme Media, BBC America, Casa Latina, garnering over $35 million in funded initiatives. Prior to her consulting firm, she was VP of Development at HITN, a national Hispanic public service TV network. At HITN, she was also the Project Leader and Manager for the awarded US Department of Education, Ready to Learn multi-year initiative entitled, HITN Early Learning Collaborative, formerly Project LAMP.

Rivera’s first official appearance as Executive Director will be at the 2016 Latino Summit to be celebrated in Denver, CO on June 8th in conjunction with the National Federation of Community Broadcasting (NFCB) Annual Conference. “I’m really looking forward to meeting LPRC member stations and continuing our longstanding dialogue on media diversity and Latino inclusion with the public broadcasting community,” Rivera added.

This year’s summit builds on LPRC’s recent case study about Southern California Public Radio’s success engaging Latino audiences. “The study revealed a set of replicable best practices. At the Summit, we will engage for LPRC member stations to help them utilize these best practices to grow their listener base, obtain more funding and foster diversity within their community,” explained Ileana Rivera Santa, LPRC Latino Station Services Manager. “We will also explore how public radio overall can continue to thrive by also serving Latino audiences.”

In addition to the Latino Summit, representatives from LPRC member stations will speak at different sessions during the NFCB conference, making media diversity and Latino inclusion part of the larger conversations.
