NSC Students Paddle Their Way to Success

Students have achieved their Two Star Award in Canoeing and Kyaking.

Shropshire, United Kingdom, June 11, 2016 --(PR.com)-- North Shropshire College (NSC) students from Outdoor Adventure Sport and Uniformed Public Services have recently completed their Two Star Award in Canoeing and Kayaking. The students undertook the exam at the lake on the Walford Campus, with Andy Turton owner of Ty Nant Outdoors, who is an experienced canoeist and kayaker and has visited the lake on numerous occasions.

Students spent the day on the lake, experiencing a variety of river sections and skills in both canoes and kayaks. The award helps the students to develop fundamental paddle-sport skills on flat water. The emphasis of the day was to give students a breadth of experience and to understand how the paddle, boat and water interact.

Patrick McBride, Outdoor Adventure Lecturer, commented, “Students have been very excited about Andy coming in for a few weeks now, achieving the two star award will mean that they are efficient canoeists and kayakers and can aim for future awards to enable them to teach. Quite a few students are considering studying Outdoor Education at university and having this award will be a fantastic bonus for them to have.”
