Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located in Cincinnati, OH, is responding to historic flooding that has deluged Louisiana. Most of Louisiana has received at least twelve inches of rain since Friday, with some locations getting as much as 30 inches, according to the National Weather Service. While the weather is improving, flooding will continue to be a problem for days to come, with water receding in some areas, but still rising in others.

Over 40,000 homes have been affected by the flooding. Approximately 8,000 people remain in shelters and more than 30,000 people have been rescued from flood waters across south Louisiana. At least 11 people have died as a result of the flooding.

Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response Team departed on Wednesday, August 17 with Matthew 25’s full complement of specialized Disaster Relief Vehicles. The trucks will also be distributing Cintas first aid and safety kits and supplies, and additional items such as Pampers diapers, Charmin toilet paper, Tide Pods and blankets. Matthew 25’s disaster response fleet also includes an ice machine that can produce up to 10,000 pounds of ice a day. The team will travel throughout the region, establishing central distribution sites and also delivering products to hard hit areas.

“The current disaster represents historic flooding in this area,” says Matthew 25 CEO Tim Mettey. “Our team has traveled to Louisiana a number of times since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
