Lyndhurst Author Publishes Jersey Shore Book

Lyndhurst, NJ, author and photographer Kevin Woyce takes readers on an illustrated tour of Jersey Shore history in his new book, "Jersey Shore Facts & Photos."

Lyndhurst, NJ, January 28, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Ever wonder why there is an elephant-shaped building in Margate, or how Jersey Shore towns got names like “Loveladies” and “Rio Grande?” Lyndhurst author and photographer Kevin Woyce did, and after tracking down the answers, he has published them in his new book, "Jersey Shore Facts & Photos."

Woyce says, “I’ve always enjoyed visiting the shore. When I was very young, my grandfather had a house down in Mystic Islands, with a boat dock in the backyard. Later on, we’d spend a week every August with him in Wildwood Crest, and we’d also take day trips. I still remember watching fireworks over the beach in Point Pleasant, and riding the carousels and the Ferris wheel in Asbury Park.”

Writing and photography have also been longtime interests. “I’ve been taking pictures for about fifteen years,” Woyce says, “and I’ve been writing since I learned how to read. Of course, it’s only recently I figured out I could combine the two.”

The result of that combination is a collection of short histories and anecdotes, illustrated with more than three dozen original black and white photographs of lighthouses, boardwalks, neon signs, old hotels and one very large wooden elephant.

Woyce grew up in East Rutherford, the eldest of 15 siblings. A graduate of William Paterson College and a longtime employee of Barnes & Noble, he now lives in Lyndhurst with his wife, poet and artist Carin Loeffel. “Without her encouragement,” he says, “this book would never have existed. A couple of years ago, she talked me into trying to sell some of my pictures online. One thing lead to another, and now if a customer looks up ‘Jersey Shore’ at work, one of the books they’re going to see will have my name after it.”

"Jersey Shore Facts & Photos," now available online at bn.com and Amazon.com, is Kevin Woyce’s second book. His first, a collection of color photographs titled "20 Lighthouses: Lakes Erie & Ontario" can be found at www.kevinwoyce.com. Both books are printed by Lulu, a web-based Print On Demand publisher.
