Alaskan Middle-Schoolers Adopt the NY Mets as Their MLB Home Team

Anchor Lutheran School Students will Cheer the Mets at Citifield During Their Last Game of the Regular Season.

Anchorage, AK, September 19, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Unfortunately, the 49th state is without any professional sports teams. To remedy this, the seventh and eighth graders of Anchor Lutheran School in Anchorage, Alaska, have 'adopted' the New York Mets and will watch their team play at Citifield against the Phillies at 1:15 PM, September 25th, as part of their 10-day tour of the east coast. "This is a big deal," said Allison Chandler, the school's principal. "We've followed the Mets the entire season! She added, "Most of them have never been to a professional stadium."

"Evidently, a group touring from Alaska, is rather exotic," mused Anne Marie Whittaker, the tour planner for the school. She had received a phone call from Tickets.com inquiring whether their purchase was for real! After she verified to their Fraud Department that it was on the level, she immediately called Mets management. "I guess it's because you're from Alaska," were the replies. "There wouldn't have been any raised eyebrows if we had come from Europe or Asia," Ms. Whittaker explained.

They made news in Alaska, too. In 2014, the tour group watched one of Derek Jeter's last games at Yankee Stadium before he retired. During the game, they sent photos via iPhone to David Goldman, the Sports Director for WTVA, Anchorage, a CBS affiliate; this time it will be with WTVA's, Dave Laval.

Andrew Hicks, the Mets' Account Executive, suggested the newly-inducted MLB Hall of Famer, Mike Piazza "Ticket Package," including a souvenir button-down Jersey bearing the slugger's retired number 31. So you'll find them cheering in left field, section 138 - just look for the fans waving the Alaska flags!
