Care For Friends Announces Winners of Community Awards

Organization recognizes individuals for their contribution to the wellbeing of Chicago’s homeless.

Chicago, IL, October 02, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Care for Friends announced the 2016 winners of their community awards at their Fall Gala today. Awardees were recognized for their ability to advance the organization’s mission of connecting Chicago’s most vulnerable with the resources they need to achieve a better life.

Good Neighbor Award included Russel and Wayne Lodarek from Big Apple Finer Foods, and Officers Susan Higham and Martinez Armando from the Chicago Police Department. Big Apple has been a long time partner of Care for Friends, supplying fresh produce in support of over 9,000 hot meals served to homeless guests annually. Officers Higham and Armando have been instrumental in the partnership between Care for Friends and the Lincoln Park community by acting as a bridge between program guests and local residents to ensure safety for everyone.

Dr. Charles Stewart was also awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of his long-standing service to Care for Friends. Dr. Stewart has been instrumental in organizing volunteer groups, coordinating food donations, and cooking thousands of meals during his tenure with the Food for Friends program.
