An Intelligently Linked System Designed by Builderstorm Allows Access to Big Data Anywhere

Learn why the biggest problem this industry faces is coordination.

Brighton, United Kingdom, October 08, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Uniformity or homogeneity has never been one of the strengths of the construction industry. It is, in fact, made up of a number of sub-industries. Moreover, each project is made up of sub-projects that come together to create a cohesive whole. This is why the biggest problem this industry faces is coordination.

Plans and documents have to be shared between different departments and sometimes other companies. All changes at all junctures need to be communicated to everyone involved. Even if done digitally, some of the design files might be too heavy for generic email clients. Moreover, if a single person misses out on an emailed update, it can end up being disastrous for the entire project.

James Sandwick, co-founder of BuilderStorm construction project management software, says, "Manual error is natural. It is bound to happen. The problem is the construction industry is very unforgiving of errors. Mistakes cause delays and delays cost a lot of money."

The first step to minimising errors is proper communication. Communication is the principle that BuilderStorm is built on. Mr Sandwick says, "BuilderStorm started from a single point idea of making communication real-time. We started with the question, 'Is there a way to build an online RFI form?' RFI stands for Request for Information."

What started out as a convenient RFI form is now a multi-feature software suite. "BuilderStorm is still mainly about communication," explains Mr Sandwick. "It is designed for quick and effective communication and idea-exchange between various departments and teams involved in a project."

The program offers a cloud storage feature where all the documents associated with a project can be stored. Because of this central storage, anyone with the necessary permission can view these documents. Additionally, if the document is edited or amended, it only needs to be done once.

"You no longer need to send multiple emails to various people informing them that something has changed. A single edit to the main document on the cloud is all you need. Everyone can view these changes," says Mr Sandwick.

"What's more, you can have design discussions, make notes, and edit drawings without the members even having to be in the same room. The software comes with a built-in interactive designing feature."

It is not just large design files that the software allows you to upload. BuilderStorm contains every feature a construction project might need including job planning and allocations, accounts, delivery planning, and procurements.

"The beauty of this is that you can access these documents anywhere," says David Lawrence, co-founder and the 'construction brain' behind BuilderStorm. "As long as you have an internet connection and a device with our software installed, you have access to all documents related to the project."

The cloud storage has huge implications for the building industry. Recently, the UK government passed the BIM regulations. BIM, or Building Information Modelling, is a multi-phase programme. The main aim of this programme is to streamline and reduce the carbon footprint of the building industry by digitising its operations.

This would mean less paper consumption and faster operations through efficient communication. With departments coordinating in real-time, project delays will be reduced. This will result in fewer losses due to held up work.

BuilderStorm has been based on the BIM principles, which means any company using it is already on the road to becoming BIM compliant. In addition to the features it offers and the ease of sharing large documents, this makes it one of the best investments a construction company can make.
