Shorecrest Prep Goes “Into the Woods”

St. Petersburg, FL, October 12, 2016 --(PR.com)-- A month before the show comes to the Straz in Tampa, see “Into the Woods” in St. Petersburg for just $10 with the Shorecrest Upper School’s Broadway-style production. Showtimes are at 7pm October 21 and 22 in the Janet Root Theatre at Shorecrest Preparatory School. The cast includes some of the best young talent in the Tampa Bay Area in the regionally recognized Shorecrest Performing Arts program.

“Into the Woods” follows fairy tale characters, both familiar and new, as their stories intersect in pursuit of their dreams in the mysterious woods surrounding their kingdom. The show is a fascinating musical tapestry about our hopes and dreams, triumphs and failures as it explores the question, “Is there really a happily ever after?” “Into the Woods” is based on the book by James Lapine and features a haunting and beautiful score by Stephen Sondheim.

Intended Audience: The production is split into two acts, the first of which highlights popular fairy tale personalities like Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Prince Charming portrayed as normal, flawed people. There’s a witch, a wolf and a giant, but the scares are mild for young viewers. Intermission may be a good time to leave with little ones, however. As the play progresses into Act 2, plot twists become more mature and at times dark, reminding the audience, “be careful what you wish for.” Characters tackle moral dilemmas in ways that will resonate with viewers aged 15 and up.

Tickets are $10 for both students and adults and are available for purchase at the Theatre Box Office October 17-21 from 8am-4pm and 90 minutes before each show. Box Office Information is available at 727-522-2111 x141. The Janet Root Theatre is located on the Shorecrest campus at 5101 First Street NE in St. Petersburg.
