Rockers Monty Warren & The Friggin' Whatevers Celebrate CD Launch and Chuck Berry's Birthday at Alligator Alley Pub (10/22) (Oakland Park, FL)
On Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m., Oakland Park's Alligator Alley Native Florida Sub Pub & Tap Room hosts Monty Warren & the Friggin' Whatevers CD Launch Party (Album No. 3, "Far Out Close Up"), and celebrates the birthdays of Chuck Berry, Monty Warren and local musician/pub owner, Kilmo Doome (also known as Carl Pacillo). The group features local and out-of-state musicians coming together to "Raise the Bar." The Hate Ash Buried opens.
"This CD was released on Keith Richards' birthday at the end of last year," said Warren. "But this will be the official CD Launch Party because we can finally find the time to appear on stage."
The Palm Beach Post named "Far Out Close Up" to its annual Best Music List in 2015.
With the exception of Monty Warren (who writes and sings most of the tunes and plays rhythm guitar) and his lead guitarist John Beemiller, the "Whatevers" tend to be...whatever. This time around, South Florida musicians Bill Meredith and Ron De Sarno will be on drums and bass, respectively.
"On Saturday night, John Beemiller will be the common denominator," said Warren. "Every musician on that stage has a history playing with him in a band over the years." Warren and Beemiller go back as far as the '80s when they both played in the South Florida band Fallen Angels.
"Giving these local bands a spot where they can shine is what Alligator Alley is all about," said Pacillo, who opened the bar in April.
“Indy Week” stated that Monty Warren & The Friggin' Whatevers "retroactively bridge the gap between '70s pub rock/power pop and the arrivals of Tom Petty, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello…" Palm Beach Post has named all three MWFW CD’s to its annual Music Best List.
"It's kind of fitting that one of our songs on the new CD is 'Raise the Bar',” said Beemiller, who will be flying in from Nashville, Tenn. to join in the festivities, and co-wrote the tune with Warren. "Because that's exactly what we will do on Saturday night."
Doors open at 8 p.m. Monty Warren & The Friggin’ Whatevers will play at 9 p.m. after The Hate Ash Buried opens.
