Petco Foundation Invests in Lifesaving Work of Flagler Humane Society

Grant of $15,000 will extend efforts to save more animal lives in Flagler County.

Palm Coast, FL, October 26, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Flagler Humane Society, today announced it has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its mission of sheltering and nurturing animals and being a community resource and advocate for all animals.

Flagler Humane Society is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that has decreased its number of animals euthanized by 78 percent since 2013 and maintained a 92% live release rate for 2016 serving Flagler County. Since 1980, Flagler Humane Society has cared for an average of 3,000 animals per year, offered low-cost spay and neuter surgery and has begun caring for even more pets and animal owners through its wellness clinics and preventative offerings.

The Petco Foundation investment helped to replace and build 24 new cages for two cat rooms at the Flagler Humane Society. The old cages were from when the building was first built in 2004 and had gone through several repairs through the years. The new cages were custom built by Masterpiece Cabinetry of Ormond Beach (http://www.masterpiececabinetry.com/)

“The new cages are extremely easy to clean and are much larger and deeper.,” said Lisa Mello, Flagler Humane Society Cattery Worker. “There is more room for the cats and kittens to play and they are extremely easy to work with.”

“The investment by Petco will help us to better care for our cats,” said Amy Carotenuto, Flagler Humane Society Executive Director. “Another great part of this is that we were able to give the old cages to a Palm Coast pet rescue organization.”
