Miami's Afrikin Fest Shifts Focus to Hurricane Relief

Afrikin Fest to implement festival donation drive for hurricane survivors in Haiti.

Miami, FL, November 12, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Afrikin Fest will add itself to the festival landscape as the first of its kind to place innovation and activism at the forefront, and fuse the talent of influencers and companies that represent the African diaspora. In addition, and due to the recent devastation resulting from Hurricane Matthew, the festival will also implement a donation drive in partnership with the nonprofit organization, Man Dodo, with a special focus on relief efforts in Haiti.

Afrikin Fest producer, Alfonso D’Niscio Brooks, is no stranger to festival production. As the producer of Miami Reggae Festival, Bayside Rocks, and Reggae Carifest in New York, Brooks knows a thing or two about putting together a winning festival formula:

“With the recent events in Haiti, and basically the Caribbean and the Southeast as a whole, a typical music festival just won’t do,” Brooks stated. “At first, we were bringing influencers from various industries in an effort to inspire people and to raise the profile of the African diaspora. Now, we’re also working to bring people together not only in the spirit of community, but also compassion.”

The weekend-long event will be held from November 18-20, 2016, significant dates in history pertaining to the African diaspora (Battle of Vertieres, Haiti; Gettysburg Address, U.S.; Qilomo de Palmeres, Brazil). African inspired food and live music will top off the festival weekend, with acts representing the African diaspora, including Grammy nominated Haitian outfit, Boukman Eksperyans, Haitian kompa band, T-Vice, and Ivorian reggae artist, Tiken Jah Fakoly. Event proceeds will also benefit Give Me Dignity, a Miami-based nonprofit that provides resources for survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse. For more information, visit www.AfrikinFest.com.
