Mayor of Daphne, Alabama, Dane Haygood Honors Centenarian

Resident at The Brennity at Daphne Senior Living turns 100 years old.

Daphne, AL, February 02, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Mayor Dane Haygood and the city of Daphne celebrated the 100th birthday of esteemed citizen, Mary Puckett Tucker, with a Certificate of Recognition presented at her residence, The Brennity at Daphne, a Sagora Senior Living community.

“Celebrating 100 years is something that not only denotes an attainment in age, but also in wisdom,” said Bryan McCaleb, President of Sagora in a letter to of recognition to Mary on achieving this milestone.

The Brennity at Daphne was decorated in Mary’s favorite color, green, and a special birthday cake baked by Brennity’s culinary director made her queen for the day. With residents, associates and family members in attendance, Mayor Haygood spoke of the honorable life of this centenarian.

Mary Puckett Tucker was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 2, 1917, the youngest of two sisters. She and her husband, Robert (Bob) J. Tucker, Jr. were married in 1940 and had two sons, Robert J, Tucker III, and William H. Tucker. While Bob fought to protect the U.S. during World War II in the Pacific, Mary stayed on the home front to care for their first born. Mary and Bob were married for almost 64 years until his death in 2004.

Though Mary experienced the challenging times of the Great Depression, her positive outlook on life has made her an inspiration to others. Known as a neighborhood friend in her community and matriarch of her family, she values relationships and takes pride in her close-knit family of five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Like many ladies of her generation, Mary was dedicated to her family and home, and her passions were found in soulful expressions of art and religion. She is a devout Christian in the Methodist church and an artist in her own right, with creative outlets such as music, art, cooking, sewing, crafts and gardening.

Mary, a Brennity at Daphne resident since 2009, has been active in the lifestyles program and fits right in the friendly culture of the community. She enjoys participating in the baking club, social gatherings and anything related to music. Her active lifestyle is a testament to aging with grace and vigor. She is the first resident to turn 100 years old at this community, and continues to be an example of a life well lived.
