Belconn's New Design of Air Blown Optical Cables Achieved Over 2000 Mtrs Running Distance

An improved design of HBBX air blowing optical fiber cables was tested at Belconn's test plant reporting very good results in terms of run distance.

Torino, Italy, February 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Belconn has recently revised the internal design and construction of its HBBX optical cables for air blown installation.

The objective of the design was to improve blown distance in order to easily achieve at least 2000 mtrs.

The new design was carried out for HBBX cables having fiber capacity from 24 to 72 fo, and involved internal tube construction and assembly, ending to a lighter and thinner cable.

Cables were intensively tested in Belconn's in house test plants, consisting of 2 independent rings, 2000 mtrs long, made with 10/12 mm PE microducts.

- Ring #1 has a quasi-rectangular shape, each side being roughly 500 mtrs.
- Ring #2 has a narrow "U" shaped layout.

Newly designed cables could rather easily pass the 2000 mtrs test on both test rings, and did not show any mechanical and optical damage even if re-run several times with a blowing pressure as high as 13 bar.
