The Forbidden City is one of the most dazzling architectural masterpieces in the world. From the early fifteenth century, it served as the Imperial Palace of China’s Ming and Qing Dynasties. Over a period of five centuries, twenty-four emperors ruled from within its high walls and heavy doors, until the abdication of the last emperor PuYi in 1912. The palace holds many untold stories which were the inspiration for Echoes Beyond the Forbidden City.

We invite you to join us as dancEnlight’s Artistic Director Lorelei Chang weaves elements of this historical time into an intriguing story told through dance.

In addition to dance, the performance will include classical Chinese music performed on a Yangqin by local musician Hsiu-Chi Liang and a film and a slide show both of which will educate the audience about the Forbidden City. Traditional costumes from China and Japan were purchased for this performance. Music, dance, fashion, education, architecture, history...all are included in this inspired show.

A reception to meet the dancers will occur after the Sunday matinee.

Echoes Beyond the Forbidden City has been made possible in part through the sponsorship of the Hoffman Auto Group.
