Now in its 11th season, Creating A Writing Life retreats attract writers in all genres and all levels of ability to the Connecticut shoreline each summer. This year the full day event presented by Old Saybrook writer Patricia Ann Chaffee will take place at the oceanfront retreat center, Mercy By the Sea in Madison.

“I call these gatherings 'retreats for emerging writers,' but I think we are all emerging in different ways,” says Chaffee. “We are all in process and working toward a deeper understanding of our gifts and who we are called to be.”

The retreats present an opportunity for writers to honor their passion for the craft, network with other writers and celebrate the writing life in an inspiring, judgement free atmosphere.

“I think the small group setting makes it comfortable for those new to sharing their work, although we have folks attend who are published as well as just finding their literary voice,” says Chaffee. “Inevitably we learn from each other through sharing, reading from writing prompts, and of course the guest speakers. Whether their interest is poetry, fiction, memoir, or children’s literature, the writers who attend these retreats are really passionate about the writing life.”

The all-inclusive event runs from 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and includes a continental breakfast and buffet lunch. Registration is $155 and a $5 discount is offered for registrations received by May 1. A second retreat is scheduled for July 22 featuring poet and publisher, Gian Lombardo.
