Costa Mesa, CA, July 03, 2017 --(PR.com
)-- Martin Lawrence Galleries South Coast is proud to present a whimsical and witty exhibition that fools the eye via trompe-l’oeil. Artist, Bertho, is flying in from France to greet his guests over the little scenarios of his own ingenious inventions.
Bertho is classically trained having enrolled in art school in Reims, France in the early 1990s. There, he spent considerable time studying decorative trompe l’oeil painting; he drew inspiration from renowned artist, Jacques Poirier. Employing objects that others found useless – corrugated iron, rusted metal boxes, old light bulbs, - Bertho was fascinated with his ability to bring his art alive by creating dimension. Into his paintings, Bertho inserts mischievous characters that climb, search, run, and think. Using a combination of narrative figuration and Pop inspiration, the result has become the basis for his simple, bizarre artworks.
“Through my art, I create a visual story that only the viewer can complete by using their intellect, imagination and sense of humor,” said Philippe Bertho, Artist.
The public art reception will take place Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 6PM – 8PM. Martin Lawrence Galleries South Coast is located at 3333 Bear Street, Suite 202, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. The art is on exhibit until July 21, 2017.
“After a seven year absence in the USA, Bertho will arrive from France.
