Adventure for Young People 11-17

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has openings for a limited number of young people ages 11-17 to join the crew of NSCC AEGIS Division. An information session will be held at the Mount Laurel Library on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 7:30 PM. The library is located at 100 Walt Whitman Drive, Mt. Laurel, NJ.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is comprised of everyday young people who have an interest in seamanship, the military or other seagoing careers. Since 1958 the Naval Sea Cadet Corps has been committed to providing American youth with a drug and alcohol free environment to foster their leadership abilities, broaden their horizons through hands-on training and guide them to becoming mature young adults. Cadet applicants must be drug-free, crime-free, and good students.

NSCC AEGIS Division cadets train at the Navy Operational Support Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst one weekend per month, often beginning on the last Friday of the month at 7:30 pm, ending that Sunday at 4pm. Additional community service and color guard activities are also held throughout the year.

The program is managed by volunteers dedicated to instilling the core values of Pride, Service, and Patriotism. Training scheduled for the year generally includes Fire Safety, Swimming Qualifications, CPR and First Aid, Military Drill, Modern Army Combatives, and Safe Boating.

Sea Cadets wear a modified Navy uniform and can participate in a multitude of advanced training programs, including: at-sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard, submarine orientation, Sea Perch training, aviation training, field operations, and international exchanges.

Cadets and staff from NSCC AEGIS Division have attended a variety of trainings over the last twelve months – NSCC Recruit Training (aka Boot Camp), Petty Officer Leadership Academy, NSCC Field Operations, NLCC Orientation (mini boot camp for cadets under 14), FAA Ground School, Seamanship and Recruiting Station Training (working side-by-side with Navy recruiters in their daily job).

Adult volunteers, with or without military experience, are needed to allow the Sea Cadet program to grow. Those with seamanship, engineering, administrative, and fund-raising skills are especially needed. Interested adults are encouraged to register for the session on September 6th.

To register for the session, contact the division’s recruiting hotline at 609-949-9019, extension 1, or e-mail us at While registration is not required, it is recommended.
