Coming of Age Novel "Confessions from the Pumpkin Patch" Wins New Apple E-Book Award for Excellence in Independent Publishing

Dayton, OH, September 18, 2017 --(PR.com)-- "Confessions from the Pumpkin Patch" by Karlyle Tomms chosen as Medalist Winner in the Coming of Age category of the 2016 New Apple Summer E-Book Awards for Excellence in Independent Publishing.

Book Synopsis
Growing up in a small Pennsylvania town, Lovella is an intelligent and rebellious child of the 60s. She adores her alcoholic and ineffectual father while despising her controlling mother and discovers in her teens that the most potent revenge she can take on her mother is through sexually acting out. When she goes away to college she meets Earl, an “ugly hippie” who takes her on a journey through life that she never dreamed she would take. She discovers that things aren’t always what they seem and life seldom turns out the way we planned. There are mysteries surrounding her past that she struggles to understand. In the turbulence of the late 1960’s, she is forced to face fears and prejudices she never knew she had. She discovers in the end that the simple small town life she left back in Climax, Pennsylvania was not so simple at all and the true meaning of love and family is something only to be understood with maturity.

About the Author
Karlyle Tomms is a writer who grew up in rural Ozarks poverty. He completed his master’s degree in clinical social work in 1981, and worked most of his career in mental health services and addictions treatment. He has written for different regional magazines and newspapers over the years, and has often been selected to speak at both professional and non-professional events, as well as radio talk shows. However, he had never published fiction until completing his first novel in 2014. His general method for fiction has been to define a character and allow that character to tell his or her own story from first person perspective as though the character is writing an autobiography. Through his characters he explores the psychology of the human condition as well as the various elements and entanglements of personalities. His novels incorporate the social and historical influences surrounding the lifetimes of his characters, and are stories of overcoming social, emotional and spiritual challenges.
