Fat Turtle Theatre Company jumps into their second production as a company to bring out the hilarious adaptation The Quest for Don Quixote by Mark Brown. Inspired by the novel The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. Produced in association with Dramatic Publishing.

The show will be premiering at the Theater at the Fort in Lawrence, IN.

The synopsis for The Quest for Don Quixote is Playwright Ben Eisenberg sits in a Starbucks on the eve of the first rehearsal of his stage adaptation of Don Quixote. There’s just one problem—he hasn’t written it. He hasn’t written anything in years, and his status as wunderkind playwright is quickly fading to has-been hack. His agent is apoplectic, the producer’s advance is long since spent and adapting a 1,000-page Renaissance adventure is beginning to feel a bit like tilting at windmills. But then—whether from a stroke of genius or a near-lethal dosage of caffeine and Xanax—Starbucks itself begins to transform, and the errant knight arises in this delightfully theatrical and hilarious retelling of Cervantes’ classic tale.

Fat Turtle Theatre Company welcomes an all-star cast, led by director Aaron Cleveland, the 6-person cast features Jason Page (Ben), Dan Flahive (Jeffry), Jeff Maess (Don Quixote), Nan Macy (Duchess of Tierra Malvados), Savannah Jay (Dulcinea), Justin Lyon (Sancho Panza). The show will also feature live guitar accompaniment by Chris McNeely.

Aaron Cleveland to Direct Indiana Premiere

Aaron Cleveland is a theatre director, actor and co-founder of Fat Turtle Theatre Company (fatturtletheatre.com), an Indianapolis-based theatre company. Most recently he directed Glengarry Glen Ross, at the Indyfringe theatre on Mass Ave. In the past he has directed numerous productions throughout Indianapolis. He has an affinity for Mark Brown productions, as the humor and satire that Mark Brown brings to all of his historic adaptations, allows creativity and unending opportunities to create laughs on the account of some of our greatest historical novels. Where many get stuck in the world of historical accuracy, Mark Brown finds a way to get the basics of the history, while bringing forward a hilarious and heartwarming story.

Aaron is thrilled to be working hand-in-hand with the Theatre at the Fort, a division of the Arts for Lawrence based in Lawrence, IN. The use of the theatre space is a great community service that he hopes will bring out more of the community to enjoy the theatrical arts offered in the Indianapolis area.

More about award-winning Playwright Mark Brown

Mark Brown is an award-winning writer. His play Around the World in 80 Days has been produced around the world, from Off-Broadway to Baridhara Dhaka, Bangladesh and has been translated into Turkish. Tom Jones, his adaptation of the ribald Henry Fielding novel, received its world premiere in 2014 and has been called, “Clever, silly and highly theatrical!” His musical China – The Whole Enchilada was named Outstanding Musical of the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival and has been called “funny, smart, surprisingly deep, and very enjoyable.” Mark’s play The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge has been called “a sequel worthy of Dickens’ approval,” and “a worthy new entry into the holiday canon.” His adaptation of The Little Prince set box office records at the Hippodrome Theatre and the Orlando Theatre Project. His play Poe – Deep Into That Darkness Peering hasn’t won a thing but is a darn good play and should be produced more often. He’s currently working with Paul Mirkovich, his collaborator on Enchilada, on a musical adaptation of the novel Tom Jones. Mark lives in Los Angeles and dreams of living in a chateau in France.
