An Opportunity for Johnson C Smith University to Implement Modern Campus Safety Technology Through Campus Safety Grant Worth $22,495

Chicago, IL, February 21, 2018 --( Johnson C Smith University (JCSU) received a $22,495 grant from Campus Consortium, the largest global education association of schools, colleges and universities, to go toward implementing a campus safety app for students and faculty. JCSU is an independent new urban university rooted in the HBCU tradition and charged with an urgent public mission: to recruit and equip a diverse student body through innovative teaching, learning and faculty-mentored and applied research with the knowledge, skills, values, and ethics that will enable them to solve complex problems in a fast-changing global economy.

“The University is continuously seeking to increase campus safety and promote an environment of interactive learning and civic engagement. The Campus Safety app will interface with and complement our technology infrastructure, allowing the Information Technology division and Campus Police Department to implement modern technology services in meeting the safety needs of our stakeholders,” said Latrelle McAlister, vice president of Administrative Services at Johnson C Smith University.

The Campus Consortium Grant will enable Johnson C Smith University to further improve security on campus, with the campus safety app bringing this functionality to smartphones for an added sense of security both on and off campus. The application uses wi-fi or cellular data to provide location details when someone makes an emergency call with the app. This gives far more accurate information and provides first responders with a better idea of where they need to go. Students can additionally redo the application to send alerts to their family, professors or friends if a crisis arises.
