Badger Fund Plants Another Seed to Grow Wisconsin’s Startup Ecosystem
The Badger Fund is committing capital to another start up.
Madison, WI, May 02, 2018 --(PR.com)-- They’re out to “startup” Wisconsin. For the fourth time in the last two years, the Badger Fund of Funds I, L.P. has made an anchor investment commitment to a new Wisconsin venture capital fund. The Badger Fund has committed to invest up to six million dollars into Milwaukee-based Bold Coast Capital Fund I, L.P., a new venture capital fund managed by experienced investor Ross Leinweber. A UW-Madison Business School graduate, Mr. Leinweber co-managed Chicago proprietary derivatives firm Lake Shore Trading before moving back home in 2013 to manage his investment firm, Cedar Road Capital, and mentor local entrepreneurs.
“Ross’ relationships and knowledge of both the Milwaukee and Chicago communities will be an advantage to the fund – we were delighted when Ross made both a career and financial commitment in the Milwaukee area,” said Badger Fund partner Ken Johnson.
The Bold Coast team is supported by an investment committee consisting of high calibre Wisconsin and Chicago based entrepreneurs, investors, and business professionals. The Bold Coast Fund is well positioned to support Milwaukee’s prime startup constituents: University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Medical College of Wisconsin, first class corporations, a loyal community, and a supportive government.
The Badger Fund dedicates significant amounts of time and resources to strategically evaluate and develop local venture fund managers. “The culture and the people are equally important as is a deep knowledge of the startup industry,” explains Badger’s Brian Birk, Badger Fund partner and managing partner of Sun Mountain Capital, LLC.
In the last year, two Badger portfolio funds, the Idea Fund of La Crosse and the Winnebago Seed Fund in the Fox Valley, have announced investments in Wisconsin start-ups. “We expect that the Bold Coast Fund will have similar startup opportunities in Milwaukee and the surrounding area,” said Johnson.
