Cayman Partners with LIPID MAPS® to Support Continued Development of Key Lipidomic Research Resources

Cayman has increased its financial support of the LIPID MAPS® Lipidomics Gateway. The newly launched LIPID MAPS® website (June 2018) provides easy access to free tools and resources, including a searchable lipid structure database (with over 43,000 entries), mass spectrometry spectra prediction tools, lipid structure drawing tools, experimental protocols, systems biology pathway maps, statistical analysis tools, and a curated lipid standards database.

Ann Arbor, MI, July 21, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Cayman Chemical, a leading supplier of bioactive lipids, analytical standards, and contract lipidomic services, has increased its financial support of the LIPID MAPS® Lipidomics Gateway. The newly launched LIPID MAPS® website (June 2018) provides easy access to free tools and resources, including a searchable lipid structure database (with over 43,000 entries), mass spectrometry spectra prediction tools, lipid structure drawing tools, experimental protocols, systems biology pathway maps, statistical analysis tools, and a curated lipid standards database with links to commercially available analytical standards. Authoritative sources are increasingly important as lipidomics research has become so broadly applicable to both physiological and pathological processes, including signaling and disease. The data stored and curated on LIPID MAPS® provides an invaluable resource to those seeking to identify and quantify all major—and many minor—lipid species, in order to understand their metabolism and perturbation in various biological systems.

“We are eager to support the long-term sustainability of LIPID MAPS®, as a global, open-access, community-driven resource,” noted Jeff Johnson, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs at Cayman. “We recognize LIPID MAPS® as an integral part in the growing field of lipidomics and as highly complementary to the products and services offered by Cayman.” With a goal to provide high-quality research products and to serve the research community, Cayman is committed to funding the not-for-profit endeavors of LIPID MAPS® to ensure enduring progress in the field of lipidomics. Professor Valerie O’Donnell (Cardiff University lead of LIPID MAPS®) said, “We are delighted to announce this new partnership with Cayman Chemical Company, with whom we have already worked for several years. Support such as this is vital for the future of the LIPID MAPS® Gateway to enable us to continue to serve the growing community of lipid researchers worldwide.”
