Of Golems, Short Stories, and a Mini-Memoir

"Humannequin & Other Writings:" Popular Birmingham author releases third book.

Birmingham, AL, August 15, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Popular Birmingham author and freelance writer, Susan Marie Shuman has published her third book. Humannequin & Other Writings is an eclectic compilation of short stories, a variety of poetry forms, an abbreviated memoir, and a few new chapters of the on-going Wild-Ass Series.

The short story, Humannequin, takes place in the old New Ideal department store located in downtown Birmingham. The building is in the process of renovation and will soon be The New Ideal Lofts.

“The creepy mannequins and overall eerie ambience of the abandoned building was the inspiration for Humannequin,” Shuman explains.

Other highlights include The Woods of Io which explores a cat’s take on the intricacies of this world and details her experiences in the afterlife. In another direction, Belles Lettres to my Damn-Self is an abbreviated memoir recounting the author’s insights and experiences from pre-birth to her late 20s.

“It was tough to write,” Susan Marie says. “Many times, I decided this little memoir was a bad idea. Digging around in my psyche was painful but I’m glad I stuck with it. Aside from being personally cathartic, maybe my numerous misadventures can help someone else.”

Susan Marie Shuman is also the author of “Gutter Ball: A Collection of Short Stories,” and “Eddie’s Underwear & Other Shorts.” Her books are available in paperback and Kindle formats through Amazon.com
