Full Frame Documentary Film Festival Announces Career Award Recipient

Durham, NC, March 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival (www.fullframefest.org), has announced that the recipient of this year’s Career Award is William Greaves. The Career Award presentation will include a showing of Greaves’ first film, “The First World Festival of Negro Arts,” as well as a 20-minute section of his most recent work-in-progress on Harlem. Full Frame selected four additional films directed by Greaves to screen at the festival that will spotlight the range of his work, from his documentaries on black history and culture to his critically acclaimed experimental films. These films include:

• “The Fight” (William Greaves) Free Community Screening
This 1971 fight movie, starring Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, tracks Ali’s first, unsuccessful effort to reclaim his heavyweight title from Joe Frazier after it was stripped from him because of his radical politics. Classic cinéma-vérité footage of training and trash-talking is followed by the magnificent fight in its entirety.
• “Ralph Bunche: An American Odyssey” (William Greaves)
The film covers the life and times of the world-renown African-American Nobel Peace Prize Winner and United Nations statesman, who not only pioneered the organization's peace-keeping and conflict resolution strategies, but also was one of the leading advocates of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
• “Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One” (William Greaves)
Greaves presides over a beleaguered film crew in New York's Central Park, leaving them to try to figure out what kind of movie they're making. This wildly innovative landmark remains one of the most tightly focused and insightful movies ever made about making movies.
• “Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take 2 ½” (William Greaves)
Reunited with two actors and one particularly outspoken member of his crew from Take One, Greaves endeavors to make another film about making a film about two middle-aged actors coming together to play reunited lovers.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival will be held April 3-6 in downtown Durham. Recognized as the premier documentary film festival in the United States by both The New York Times and indieWIRE, Full Frame is an arena for documentary filmmakers to showcase their work theatrically in an environment that stimulates conversation and community between filmmakers, industry executives and the general public.
