UChicago Partners with Posse Foundation to Recruit Post-9/11 US Veterans

New York, NY, August 31, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The University of Chicago (UChicago) is the newest undergraduate partner of The Posse Foundation. Through the program, UChicago will admit 10 post-9/11 U.S. veterans each year and guarantee financial aid to cover the cost of tuition after applying GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon funding. The inaugural class of UChicago Posse Veterans will matriculate in fall 2019.

“UChicago is proud to partner with The Posse Foundation’s Veterans Program,” says Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid James Nondorf. “As a College of diverse viewpoints and backgrounds, we know that future students from this program will enrich our campus community. We cannot wait to give them a big UChicago welcome!”

The launch of the Posse Veterans Program on campus comes as part of the UChicago Empower Initiative, designed to enhance the accessibility of UChicago’s undergraduate college for first-generation and low-income students.

“Our nation’s post-9/11 veterans represent a unique pipeline of talent with tremendous leadership potential,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “We look forward to working with Dean Nondorf, his team and this outstanding university. We are very proud to include the University of Chicago as a partner.”

The University of Chicago Booth School of Business has been a Posse Graduate School Affiliate since 2015, offering one full-tuition scholarship each year to a Posse alumna/us admitted to the school’s MBA program, and one scholarship to an undergraduate Posse Scholar accepted into the Chicago Booth Summer Business Scholars Program.

UChicago is an urban research university located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, with campuses around the world. Founded by John D. Rockefeller in 1890, the institution encompasses an undergraduate College of 6,300 students and multiple graduate schools.

About the Posse Veterans Program
The Posse Veterans Program identifies and supports post-9/11 veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who have tremendous leadership and academic potential. By creating cohorts of veterans, preparing them for the college experience, and supporting them through graduation, the Posse Veterans Program ensures veterans’ success in college and, ultimately, in the workforce. UChicago is the fifth school to partner with the Posse Veterans Program, joining Dartmouth College, Wesleyan University, Vassar College and the University of Virginia. The Posse Veterans Program was founded in 2013.

About The Posse Foundation
Since 1989, The Posse Foundation has identified, recruited and trained more than 8,000 students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential. These students—many of whom might have been overlooked by traditional college selection processes—have received a total of $1.2 billion in full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse’s partner colleges since the program’s inception. Posse extends to these students the opportunity to pursue personal and academic excellence by placing them in supportive, multicultural teams—Posses—of 10 students. Posse Scholars graduate at a rate of 90 percent and make a visible difference on campus and throughout their professional careers.
