Sexual Assault Activists Form a New Coalition

Norristown, PA, March 13, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Female activist and child sexual assault survivor, Elona Washington, announced the formation of a new coalition, the Coalition for Sexual Violence Organizers. Its mission is to 1) provide networking and support for sexual assault prevention organizations 2) provide resources and support for survivors looking to organize against their abuser and 3) help survivors get their stories out.

“If you examine the methods of sexual predators, they are all charming individuals with systems and enablers that perpetuated their abuse. Whether the perpetrators are wealthy or not, they are keen manipulators, making those around them believe in their innocence and attack the victim, regardless of his or her age or social stature. When the victim finally gets the courage to speak out or press charges, they’re typically operating in a silo, with virtually no network upon which they can rely. This coalition seeks to change all of that,” explains Elona Washington.

The non-profit organization, WARRIORS: Activate-Educate-Liberate, is a founding member of the coalition and its owners, Nadia Dawisha and Maria Concetto Mayo, expressed their excitement. "We decided to join in founding the coalition because connecting and collaborating with other experts in the filed is a core part of our mission."

The coalition will kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month with its first event, How to Write a State Legislative Bill. The free webinar will be held April 1st at 12 pm EST and hosted by Marsy’s Law of Pennsylvania.

Coalition for Sexual Violence Organizers brings together organizations and individuals who educate, support, and fight against sexual violence.
