Resurgence of Running Programs in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has a long history of success in running. Local runners and coaches look to lead a resurgence of running in Massachusetts.

Salem, MA, March 31, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Salem Park and Recreation and Toomey Sports announce a ten week spring running program and a twelve week summer half marathon and marathon training program. These programs are open to the community and will meet at the Bertram Field Track in Salem.

The program will be coached by Mike Toomey, a three season coach of Lynn English High School and an assistant coach of the Merrimack Valley Striders. Michael is a former high school mile state champion and an All-American runner from UMass. He is married to Jennifer, the 1500m runner up in the 2004 Olympic Trials and three time national champion.

These programs are part of the resurgence of running on the North Shore. The North Shore has produced multiple Olympic Trials participants, Olympians and National Champions in distance running including Paul Gorman (Swampscott), Paul McGovern (Lynn), and Fernando Braz(Peabody), Jennifer Toomey (Salem) and Shalane Flanagan(Marblehead).
