Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay Hosts Open House for New Affordable Homes in Sulphur Springs

Tampa, FL, June 20, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Homeownership contributes to a strong and healthy community, and Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB) is working to create new home options for lower- to moderate-income homebuyers in Tampa. On Saturday, June 22, from 10 AM to 2 PM, RTTB is hosting an Open House for the Sulphur Springs Redevelopment project at 8206 North 13th Street in Tampa, offering a preview of new models and available home sites.

As part of the City of Tampa's Nehemiah Project Phase II, RTTB’s Sulphur Spring Redevelopment project builds new energy-efficient, single-family homes with the same quality of design and features as market-rate housing but with more affordable pricing. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor will be attending the open house in support of this affordable housing initiative.

Mayor Castor said, “With nonprofit partners like Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay and others, we are striving to enhance neighborhoods throughout Tampa. The Nehemiah Project in Sulphur Springs is building new single-family housing that working families can afford. Through homeownership efforts like this one, we are providing access to affordable housing, building wealth, and strengthening our community. Our goal is a city where the prosperity is realized by all.”

RTTB’s Executive Director Jose Garcia said, “June is National Homeownership Month, so it’s a perfect time to share our new affordable home models and what we’re doing to help lower-income families attain the dream of homeownership. We believe that, when we invest in our homeowners, we are investing in the future of Tampa Bay. Through new construction and home repair, we work to revitalize neighborhoods like Sulphur Springs and break down the barriers to homeownership.”

New homeowner Istral Joseph said, “[RTTB] has a grasp on what homeowners are looking for. I saw several other homes in the 1200 square foot range and they either had a floor plan that was not ideal, or they were trying to squeeze extra bedrooms into a small space...Your model has good space and rooms with livable proportions. The housing market in Tampa is going up and for what I'm getting - new construction with a garage and good size - this house is unmatched.”

In response to feedback from buyers like Mr. Joseph, RTTB has created two new home designs, which will be showcased at the open house. "The Sienna" features an open living and dining room, a galley kitchen, three spacious bedrooms, and two bathrooms in 1306 square feet. "The Mulberry" has a similar floor plan but includes a two-car garage and offers 1804 square feet of living space. These two new models join "The Bird" and "The Alaska" options to provide a variety of home layouts to fit the needs of potential homeowners. The prices for the new homes start at $160,000, depending on size and features.

Since 2009, RTTB has invested approximately $4.5 million into the revitalization of the Sulphur Springs community, including new construction (Nehemiah Phases I and II), home repairs, Healthy Home Kits, and volunteer hours. Learn more about RTTB at www.rttb.org.
