Rishi Kumar Supports Medicare for All

San Jose, CA, October 31, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Democratic Candidate for the United States Congress seat for CA-18 Rishi Kumar* issued the following statement regarding healthcare and his position on Medicare for All.

“President Lyndon B. Johnson, 54 years ago, signed Medicare into law. Why? The reality then was that 56% of seniors lacked health care. This set a historic course for America by covering every single senior's healthcare. What a fantastic political achievement!

“Today, we continue to have a healthcare challenge with 29 million uninsured Americans. The price of insulin has gone up 1000% in the last 20 years. Metformin, the drug originally discovered in 1907 and approved for the treatment of diabetes in England in 1911, is produced by the name brand Glucophage XR and is manufactured by Merck. The price of Glucophage in India is $3, in Singapore is $12, in Dubai is $17, and $109 at a Costco in San Jose. Companies are being prosecuted due the opioid crisis after the hundreds of thousands of deaths that have occurred in the past two decades and as more incriminating data is uncovered every month.

“Our healthcare system is run by greed and now is the time to reign it back and ensure it serves the healthcare needs of American people. The growing burden of healthcare is one of the reasons why families are declaring bankruptcy in our country. It’s time to pass legislation that American families need and deserve. Healthcare is a complex issue, but Medicare for All is an option that will prove well in the long term. Medicare for All has had three historic Congressional hearings and Representative Jayapal’s House bill currently has 118 co-sponsors.

“American families want quality, affordable health care. That’s why we need more fighters in public office who will put citizens first rather than the lobbyists. I am committed to stand with the families of our district. I am the only candidate in this race for United States Congress District 18 who has taken the No Health Industry PAC Pledge. I will continue to prioritize the health of the American people over the profits of the health industry.”
