The Book Fairies to Set New Guinness World Record for Longest Line of Books

Freeport, NY, November 14, 2019 --(PR.com)-- On Guinness World Record Day, Over 25,000 Books Will be Placed End-to-End at Two Wyandanch Elementary Schools to Create the World’s Longest Line of Reading Material at Over 2.64 Miles

The Book Fairies, a Long Island-based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to eradicating illiteracy, today will work to set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Line of Books by placing over 25,000 books end-to-end to measure over 2.64 miles in length. The record attempt will be made on Guinness World Record Day at the interconnected Lafrancis Hardiman / Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary schools in Wyandanch, Long Island.

Once the Guinness World Record has been achieved, the tens of thousands of books will be distributed to the students, families and schools of the Wyandanch community to help build their libraries and foster a love of reading. Today, one in four grow up in America without learning how to read, and 61% of low-income families have no age-appropriate books in their homes.*

Since 2012, The Book Fairies have been changing lives, collecting new and gently used books and upcycling them to schools and organizations that work with people in need. To date, The Book Fairies have donated over 2 million books to over hundreds of underprivileged schools and organizations across Long Island, the greater New York metropolitan area, and overseas.

“This effort would not be possible without the support of our volunteers, partners, and sponsors, who all believe in our mission as much as we do,” said Amy Zaslansky, founder, The Book Fairies. “Having recently donated our two millionth book, the scale of our impact on fighting illiteracy is truly seen in its physical manifest today. This record-setting line of books measures well over two and half miles, and it’s only a fraction of the books we’ve distributed to those who do not have adequate access to reading material.”

“We are truly grateful for the contributions of the community members who are helping to reduce the cycle of poverty at its core by setting individuals up for success with opportunities for literacy,” Ms. Zaslansky added.
