Recently Discovered American Manuscripts to be Auctioned on iGavel.com

Featuring Letters written by America’s First Feminist, Frances Wright - Fine Art and Antiques from Estates and Various Owners Auction to close April 24th.

New York, NY, April 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Unpublished letters written by America’s first recognized Feminist, Frances Wright, were recently uncovered in France and are currently up for auction on iGavel.com. iGavel, the premier online fine art and antiques auction house features several important manuscripts in its April Fine Art and Antiques from Estates and Various Owners Auction, closing Thursday April 24th.

The recipient of Wright’s letters, William J. Macneven, was a prolific Irish-American physician, whose journal of travels in Long Island, NY is also up for auction. Macneven’s "The Spirit of the Age" autographed manuscript is said to be the script for an important speech he gave to the College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City, circa 1824-1826. He married Jane Margaret Riker, of Riker Island, NY.

Frances Wright, widely known as Fanny Wright was a Scottish born lecturer, writer, freethinker, feminist, abolitionist, and social reformer. She became a U.S. citizen in 1825 after touring with General Marquis De Lafayette, with whom Wright was thought intimately connected. Among her accomplishments, she became the first woman to lecture publicly before a mixed audience when she delivered an Independence Day speech at New Harmony in 1828. Those who have given praise to Wright’s body of work include Thomas Jefferson and Walt Whitman.

Other works in iGavel’s April Fine Art and Antiques from Estates and Other Owners auction include European and American paintings, rare books, furniture and decorative arts.

The manuscripts are being offered by Bradstreet’s, a dealer in fine art and antiques, located in Nice, France. Bradstreet’s is an Associate Seller on iGavel.com, and ran the foremost scholarly rare bookshop, Pangloss Books in Cambridge, MA.

iGavel.com is a leader in online art auctions, offering collectors and dealers high quality fine art, antiques and collectables guaranteed for authenticity and condition. iGavel auctions are modeled on the traditional live auction format, where each lot includes detailed photographic images, a professional description, and an accurate condition report.

Lark E. Mason - President of iGavel - is a frequent guest appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow, was formerly a Senior Vice President with Sotheby's Chinese Works of Art Department, and Director of Online Auctions for Sothebys.com.
