New Non-Profit, Informed Conscience, Aims to Increase Public Understanding of Homosexuality as It Relates to the Catholic Church

San Diego, CA, April 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Informed Conscience, a newly established non-profit organization based in San Diego, California, was formed to increase public awareness and understanding of homosexuality, especially as it relates to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The goals of Informed Conscience are to: 1) Give Catholics and all Christians a better understanding of Church and Bible teachings on homosexuality, 2) Help gay Catholics develop an informed conscience in relation to their sexuality as well as encourage their active participation in all areas of Church life, and 3) Reduce prejudice and discrimination against gay people by fostering a better understanding of homosexuality.

“There is a lack of clear understanding among the general public about what homosexuality really means, especially as it relates to the Catholic Church,” says Informed Conscience founder Damian Farry. “It is my hope that through Informed Conscience, the public will become better informed about homosexuality.”

The organization’s first vehicle for education is its website, www.InformedConscience.com, which covers specific Church teachings about homosexuality, as cited from various literary resources including letters from the Vatican, and recounts Bible passages that relate to the topic. The website also provides information ranging from basic definitions to statistical counts of what various experts, including the American Psychological Association and American Medical Association, say about homosexuality.

Damian Farry continues, “We've launched a campaign to bring our message to the public. Our billboard initiative aims to bring our message to wider and wider audiences. This initiative places street billboards advertising the website in cities across America - starting right here in San Diego. 100% of donations made through our website directly funds all our marketing, including these billboards. Keep a look out for us – we may be on that billboard on your drive home from work."
