Summer Fun with Art at the Erie Art Museum

Erie, PA, April 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Imagination will soar this summer at the Erie Art Museum where kids of all ages will spend time in the Erie Art Museum’s galleries, learn from teaching artists and make lots of art through a variety of summer programs geared for kids of all ages.

“We are offering a variety of educational opportunities for kids this summer to learn from some of the region’s most accomplished artists, make plenty of art, and explore art right in the Museum’s galleries,” said Kelly Armor, folk art coordinator and educational director at the Erie Art Museum.

Art in Action ages 10-14
Looking for something for young artists? The Erie Art Museum offers gallery-based art making sessions. Each week features a new theme. Hours: Tuesdays beginning June 17 from 3-4:30 p.m. Fee: $5 weekly per student; all materials are included.

Art Camp for Kids ages 7-12
Mix and mingle art and music. Campers make an instrument, invent their own music notation, paint to cool music and work right in the galleries. Hours: Monday-Friday, June 23-27, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Fee: $135 includes all supplies, snack and Student Museum membership.

First Fridays ages 3-6
For 3-6 year olds and their families. Museum staff lead adults and kids through exploring one of the exhibits using story, song and art making. Hours: First Friday of every month, 10-11 a.m. Fee: $5 per child. Free for Erie Art Museum Family members.

Kids Art Classes ages 6-14
The Erie Art Museum offers classes in drawing, painting, bead jewelry, clay and more. Summer semester starts June 16, 2008. For a complete class listing, visit www.erieartmuseum.org.

The Erie Art Museum anchors downtown Erie’s cultural and economic revitalization, occupying a group of restored mid-19th century commercial buildings, including an outstanding 1839 Greek Revival Bank. The Erie Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free for members, free on Wednesdays, $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students and $2 for children under 12.
