Channel 4 Commission “Gogol Bordello” Doco

Channel 4 has commissioned music indie Phoenix Film & Television Productions to produce a new one off documentary focusing upon New York Gypsy Punk band Gogol Bordello. Featuring 100% new footage shot during the band’s visit to the UK in 2007, the programme will also feature exclusive live tracks filmed at the band’s intimate gig at Camden Town’s Electric Ballroom.

London, United Kingdom, April 25, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Commissioned as part of the channel’s 4Play strand, this programme is the second high profile commission for Phoenix Film & Television following world music showcase “Soundcheck at Momo’s” which premiered on the Africa Channel on Friday 29th February with a special focusing on the music of Senegalese world music superstars Orchestra Baobab.

Music programming is becoming more and more diverse as viewers react to the influx of music now available over the web, and with their success in bringing world music to the UK audience, Phoenix Film & Television are leading the way in exploiting the ever increasing appetite for eclectic music programming.

Phoenix Head of Sales & Marketing Lawrence Francis adds: “The rise in availability of music online is resulting in the music industry is becoming more and more fractured, with the major labels losing their control over what people can and cannot access – and music television is having to adapt to follow suit. With the increasing sales of world music in the UK in contrast to the decline of traditional popular genres, we are really excited about bringing more and more exciting artists onto the UK screens.”

All elements of Soundcheck at Momo’s and Gogol Bordello will be produced, edited and mastered in-house by Phoenix at their HD Post-Production Facility at 3 Mills Film Studios, in East London.
