ETC Theater to Perform Dramamine High at 2008 Philly Fringe Festival

Philadelphia, PA, June 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Todd Cardin of ETC Theater announced that his company will be performing "Dramamine High", the popular high school musical at this years Philadelphia Fringe Festival. The show will feature eleven high school students from seven area high schools. Cardin, the playwright will also act in the musical, along with ETC favorite Mike Ridgeway, and Philadelphia theatre legend, Denise Shubin. The play will be directed by Emily Cardin.

Students from Kennedy Kenrick Catholic, Archbishop Carroll, Merion Mercy Academy, Malvern Prep, Villa Maria Academy, Academy of Notre Dame and Upper Merion High School will reprise the roles from the 2006 musical. These students include Esther and Elizabeth Cardin, Victoria Burdo, Paul Valente, Emily Deller, Emily Poche, Stephanie Albert, Chris Ozorowski, Anthony Morrione, Carly Bello and Jacki VanLoan. The play deals with the ins and outs of high school life, focusing on the labels that we are all forced to wear.

The Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe were founded in 1997 by a growing group of experimental artists in Philadelphia who were manipulating traditional genres, redefining their crafts, and collaborating in ways that the greater art world had yet to see. After experiencing Festival Time in Edinburgh, Scotland, local arts producers Nick Stuccio and Eric Schoefer decided that Philadelphia was ready to join the international fringe movement.

The Festival features selected cutting-edge, boundary-breaking performing arts events, while the Philly Fringe, which provides opportunities for artists to present self-produced work, by featuring nearly 150 artists. Together, the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe draw over 45,000 people who come to be a part of “Festival time” in the city—to see innovative work, meet new people at the Late Night Cabaret, and interact with over 2,000 artists performing in over 1,200 performances. The Festival continues to provide opportunities to meet and talk with artists about their work in the Festival Plus programming. Events include panel discussions as well as a panel of local theater artists, a master class and several post-show talks.

ETC is one of the only theatre companies in the area that features younger performers. "Dramamine High" will be the only play at this years Fringe Festival with high school performers. Cardin stated that performing in the Fringe will be a major highlight for each of the young actors. The play will open August 29th and performed at The Shubin Theatre in South Philadelphia.
