Bathroom Readers' Institute Celebrates June 2008 National Bathroom Reading Month with Inaugural "Free Flushes for All Day"

Uncle John to Treat New York City and San Francisco Residents to a Day of the Most Convenient and Comfortable Bathroom Experience.

Ashland, OR, June 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Bathroom Readers’ Institute (BRI) and Portable Press announced today that in celebration of June 2008 National Bathroom Reading Month, Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader representatives will jump into action, and plunge into New York City and San Francisco to bring them the first annual “Free Flushes for All Day.” This incredibly fun filled day is guaranteed to keep bathroom readers and users on the edge of their seats.

To mark the Bathroom Readers’ Institute’s inaugural “Free Flushes for All Day,” Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader representatives will be stationed outside of select Automatic Public Toilets (APTs) in New York City (Madison Square Park) on Thursday, June 19, 2008 from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm, and in San Francisco (Fisherman’s Wharf) on Friday, June 20, 2008 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, treating those who have to go, by picking up the 25 cent tab and giving users a free commemorative Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader National Bathroom Reading Month mini book for some prime time bathroom reading material.

APTs have become the answer to the lack of public restrooms in many urban areas. By simply inserting a quarter, patrons may use the public toilet for 15 minutes. Each APT is climate-controlled and includes a toilet, a wash basin with running water, and a mirror. An automated system controls the door and prevents unauthorized entrance, and the APTs are fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. After 12 minutes of use, an acoustic alarm and red flashing lights go off three minutes before the door opens. Once a user has exited, the APT door will close and the 90-second automatic cleaning cycle will begin. During the cleaning cycle the interior surfaces of the APT are cleaned and dried, and once the process is complete, a new user can access the APT.

“Uncle John and his dedicated BRI crack research staff believe that the fight for good bathroom reading should never be taken loosely. We encourage all bathroom users in New York City and San Francisco to stand up and then sit down to join us in celebrating America’s favorite reading room as the foremost seat of learning. This special day will surely make patrons wish that they could spend even more time in the bathroom,” says Uncle John himself.

Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader series is one of the longest-running, most popular humor collections in the publishing industry. With more than 7 million copies in print, Uncle John taps into a vast resource of hidden readers – the 66 percent who admit to reading in the bathroom. That’s why Uncle John’s Bathroom Readers have been a must-order for book and gift stores worldwide for two decades.
