KLAS Rates 8 Vendors in Its 2008 Clinical Market Share Report

According to findings in KLAS’ 2008 Clinical Market Share Report, the CIS market has reached replacement status. More sales are coming from organizations that are replacing existing solutions than from those buying solutions for the first time. Which vendors are being replaced and why?

Orem, UT, July 02, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Even though nearly 95 percent of provider organizations over 200 beds have already chosen their core clinical solution, vendors such as GE and Siemens are investing millions of dollars in next-generation systems. KLAS wondered who would buy these new systems, if there were enough buyers to satisfy all of the vendors in the market, if the purchases would be new or replacement, and which vendors would be replaced if a purchase were a replacement.

For this study, KLAS spoke with hospitals around the country in an effort to answer these and other questions. KLAS found that the CIS market has reached replacement status, with more sales coming from organizations that are replacing existing solutions than from those buying solutions for the first time. Additionally, only 26 percent of clinical use is through an older, legacy product which is down from 2007’s reported 33 percent.

Vendors developing solutions today may be challenged to find a market unless they introduce a unique value proposition. No longer will vendors be selling to organizations with little CIS experience; instead, vendors will be required to demonstrate why their solution will be able to take providers well beyond their previous solution.

The eight vendors who qualified for inclusion in this study were Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, GE, McKesson, Meditech, QuadraMed, and Siemens. Early findings were also included for CliniComp, CPSI, HMS, Keane, M2 Infosys, Medsphere, and Opus Healthcare Solutions.
