Recent Release, "detour," from Newman Springs Publishing Author Thomas Corey Lucas, Plunges Readers Into a Wildly Surreal Journey Defying Convention

Jamesville, NY, October 05, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Thomas Corey Lucas has completed a new book, "detour" that emerged from a daring creative experiment conducted in 1975, just as he was launching his recording career with his first album. Drawing inspiration from his deep studies of C.G. Jung and pioneers of consciousness, Lucas abandoned traditional plot structures and thematic blueprints, instead allowing his subconscious to guide the writing process. The result is an unconventional exploration of the dreamscape, where readers encounter a self-reflexive narrator navigating through layers of comic misdirection and cultural satire—complete with a pontificating swine that transforms into bacon and enigmatic glass people who disassemble themselves for amusement.

The author brings substantial life experience to this audacious work, having volunteered for the draft at eighteen and served in Vietnam, where he earned a Combat Infantryman Badge and Bronze Star. Upon returning home, Lucas pursued dual careers as both a recording artist and literary creator, eventually graduating summa cum laude from Hobart and William Smith Colleges with the college-wide award in creative writing. His background spans twelve years as a university writing instructor, psychotherapist across multiple states and Native American communities, and activist for social justice causes: all experiences that inform his distinctive artistic vision.

"detour" challenges readers to abandon their expectations and embrace genuine uncertainty. The stakes of entering this imaginative territory are high: one might discover only meaningless abstraction, or encounter an unexpected narrative structure grounded in profound psychological insight. Lucas himself warns readers to experience this evocative and provocative fiction at their own risk, as it resists the predictable conventions he came to reject in contemporary literature. Those willing to accept the invitation will find themselves on an unforgettable intellectual and emotional expedition into the depths of human consciousness.
"I wanted to trust the creative process itself," said the author, "to let my subconscious speak without the tyranny of premeditated structure, and to discover what emerges when we surrender our critical control to the dream mind."

Published by Newman Springs Publishing, Thomas Corey Lucas's bold work invites adventurous readers into uncharted literary territory. This remarkable novel demonstrates that fiction need not follow established conventions to reveal profound truths about human experience.

Readers who wish to experience this extraordinary work can purchase "detour" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
