Robin Spielberg & Larry Kosson Win a SIGNAL Award for "Robin's Piano Bar"
Incepted in 2000 in the throes of the pandemic, Robin's Piano Bar, a 90-minute video podcast livestreamed from Robin Spielberg's home Steinway, has gained an international audience. Last year it was awarded a Telly award and now just won Bronze for "Most Innovative Video Podcast" in the Signal Awards. Ceremony 11/9/26 in New York City
New Freedom, PA, October 25, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Robin Spielberg and Larry Kosson have been named the Bronze winners for Most Innovative Video Podcast division of the 5th Annual Signal Awards. This year’s program honors podcasts that take creative risks: work that breaks format, takes on hard subjects or finds a new way to reach listeners.
Winners are selected by The Signal Awards Judging Academy is an esteemed collective made up of the architects, instigators and trailblazers of the medium. “Podcasting is no longer defined by a single format, platform or approach to storytelling, and this year’s submissions make that evolution impossible to ignore,” said Jemma Brown, GM of The Signal Awards. “Charts and download counts can only tell us what’s popular. At Signal, our role is to notice the creative risks that are quietly changing what everyone else makes next. This year’s Winners offer a first look at podcasting’s next chapter.”
Each year, The Signal Awards present Gold, Silver and Bronze honors, and the listening public votes for their favorite Finalists to receive the Listener’s Choice Award in each category. In 2026, Listener’s Choice voting drew over 260,000 votes from 94,000 listeners.
Robin Spielberg & Larry Kosson began live-streaming “Robin’s Piano Bar” during the Covid pandemic. Live touring had come to a halt, and streaming live from their New Freedom, PA home on Robin’s grand Steinway piano allowed the couple to partner in creativity and create community. When live touring resumed, the couple kept the piano bar going, streaming an average of twice per month. Each episode contains non-scripted banter, listener comments and conversation, and of course, piano music. Each set is chosen based on a them. Now in its 7th season, Robin’s Piano Bar reaches the 300-episode mark on November 20.
“We applied for a BLOOM grant through York County when the pandemic hit, and received enough funds to purchase some camera equipment,” says Robin. Learning how to use it was another story. Larry, who is a talent agent and owner of Kosson Talent, LLC, had experience in photography and began learning how to use the livestream gear, mixing board. He already had a number of professional lighting gear from his previous photography business.
“The first few months were a bit rocky,” says Robin. “Sometimes the equipment failed. Sometimes we failed. Our audience stayed with us through many glitches.I started a Patreon page and fans joined to help defray the costs of piano tuning and the subscriptions required to stream across five platforms in return for various perks, like monthly pdf sheet music delivered to their inboxes, and seeds from my garden. They also are given the opportunity to send tips during the stream.”
Larry says, “We now run the piano bar as a video podcast that goes live across five platforms. All of the episodes are archived on our youtube channel (youtube.com/robinspielberg) so people can watch replays. We go live on alternate Friday nights (schedule posted at www.robinspielberg.com along with when/how to watch).
