iWatt, Inc. Releases High Efficiency Digital PWM Controller for Network AC/DC Adapters

iWatt released a new AC/DC digital PWM controller for external power supply adapters. The highly efficient device, iW1710, is rated for up to 40W of power and exceeds Energy Star requirements. The simplified design can reduce component count by up to 30 percent. The iW1720 is designed to address low noise, tight output voltage regulation and high surge protection requirements for network applications. New customer Jentec will feature the iW1710 in its newest line of network adapter products.

iWatt, Inc. Releases High Efficiency Digital PWM Controller for Network AC/DC Adapters
Los Gatos, CA, September 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- iWatt, Inc., a leader in digital power IC and systems products and technology, today announced the release of the iW1710 AC/DC Digital PWM Controller for external power supply adapters for cable/DSL modems, WLAN access points, VOIP gateways and other data communications devices.

Based on iWatt’s proprietary digital control technology, the high performance iW1710 is rated for up to 40W of power and provides high active average efficiency that exceeds Energy Star EPA 2.0 standard requirements with sufficient margin. The iW1710 also features a simplified design to reduce component count without sacrificing reliability. A typical iW1710-based 25W design uses 30 percent fewer components than other competitive designs.

iWatt also announced that Jentec, Inc., a global provider of power supply products, will feature the iW1710 in its newest line of network adapter products.

“We are extremely pleased by the rapid adoption of the iW1710 Controller in networking adapters. The iW1710 is specifically designed to address the low noise, tight output voltage regulation and high surge voltage protection requirements for networking applications without the use of an opto-coupler,” said Zahid Rahim, Vice President and General Manager of iWatt’s AC/DC business unit.

“Jentec is known for its high quality power adapters,” said Maurice Chen, President of Jentec. “We are using Pulse Width Modulated technology allowing for units that have greater reliability, ruggedness & flexibility in addition to smaller size, lighter weight & lower cost. By partnering with iWatt, we are able to meet our performance goals and provide our customers with the highest-quality solutions at the lowest cost.”

iWatt technology delivers improvements in size, cost and efficiency that have previously been unattainable without adaptive digital control technology. Key features of the iW1710 include:
· Primary-side feedback eliminates opto-coupler and shunt reference in high power designs up to 40W to improve reliability
· Cable drop compensation and 1% internal reference allows +5% output voltage regulation
· Switching frequency of up to 130 kHz to enable smaller adapter size
· Quasi-resonant operation for low EMI and high efficiency
· Proprietary iWatt EZ EMITM design reduces EMI filtering cost and increases EMI margin
· Robust fault protection including over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, short-circuit protection, over-current protection and 6kV surge protection
· Meets Energy Star, European Code of Conduct and California Energy Commission regulatory standards with sufficient margin
· Less than150mW no-load power consumption for extra green adapters

Samples of the iW1710 are currently available. Contact sales@iwatt.com for additional information.
