New Blog Article: Magazine Publishers Can Provide Economic Stimulus

Announcing the publication of a new blog article on the William Dunkerley Publishing Consultants Blog on how publishers can be an economic stimulus.

New Britain, CT, September 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- William Dunkerley, media analyst and publishing consultant, has written a new blog article entitled "Success Breeds Success." Drawing upon past experiences with publishers, he makes the point that publishers actually have the ability to stimulate the market segments in which they publish. That in turn can stimulate the growth of their own publications.

The article focuses in particular upon a small quarterly magazine that was operating in the red. As a consultant, Dunkerley found that the publication was operating fairly efficiently, but generating insufficient revenues; therefore, he devised a multi-faceted strategy to boost profits. Methods included implementing new strategies, staff training, a new workplace coaching program, new circulation marketing materials and programs, and enhanced editorial content in the quarterly itself. Particular emphasis was placed on attracting subscribers who would ultimately bring money to advertisers. The results were so drastic that the quarterly eventually became a monthly.

The quarterly-turned-monthly's successes wasn't the whole story, remembers Dunkerley. The publication's runaway success changed the industry it served, offering inspiration and motivation to the market. The more frequent content helped industry players deal with the challanges they faced. The improved ad sales effort led to uniting buyers and sellers via advertising. This creates what Dunkerley calls an "upward spiral". He concludes that publishers should take on a similar proactive role in their own fields during even the bleakest of economic times.
